How do you crochet a brooch?
Crocheting a lapel flower or brooch is really easy, you only need to know the two easiest crochet stitches. If you want to make some crochet brooches to give away the instructions are simple:
1. Make a chain about 16 inches-long.
2. Then make 2 double crochet in every chain, turn and make two double crochet into each of the double crochet below (doubling the stitches with every row). End it and wrap, making a spiral.
3. Wrap it in a tight spiral. Stitch with a large needle and some yarn of the same color.
4. Glue or stitch the leaves, then a felt circle on the back. Attach pin.

Different yarns will produce different effects, this variegated salmon pink yarn gives it even more dimension, I love how it turned out. Check out these cotton yarns to make this and the ones below:
The leaves are made from felt, I put a felt circle behind it to which the flower and leaves are stitched. Then you just need a brooch pin and some glue to finish the brooch.

Yes, it's the type of cotton yarn that doilies are usually made of.
That is pretty! I have questions too. Is the yarn the cotton type that is used in making a doily? I think I'm going to have to make some of these for Christmas gifts.
I used a hook no. 7, the cotton yarn is old so I am not sure what size it is. I'll post it if I find a similar one with the label on.
Questions…what sized hook? and what sized yarn?
